Garey Smith is the co-founder and manager of Parkland Veterinary Hospital. He received his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Hough Graduate School of Business at the University of Florida. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to develop and patent a unique hands-free leash for pets. This facilitated his transition into the pet industry. His experience and knowledge helps him provide the vision and expertise to manage the hospital resources and create an effective team with the goal of providing outstanding care and exceptional service. As the manager, Garey does business strategy, accounting, finance, marketing, payroll, and payroll taxes. He also manages the employees and pretty much does anything else needed to keep the business running smoothly.
In addition, Garey holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and does all the computer networks, information technology and website development for Parkland Veterinary Hospital. Garey is originally from Jamaica and grew up in a household surrounded by pets including dogs, cats, parakeets, rabbits, and fish. Professionally, he started out in the engineering field then later transitioned to business, where his love for animals moved him in the direction of the pet industry. He and his wife, Dr Paredes, decided to open a veterinary hospital to serve the needs of pet and pet owners. Garey loves working with and being around pets. In his own words:
"I always had a love for animals ever since our first family dogs Rexy and Clover (I was around 9yrs old at the time). I believe that pets make our lives better as they provide unconditional love and loyalty."
Garey and Glenda currently share their home with their three dogs (Olivia, Simba, and Pebbles) and a cat (Khalea).
