Nestor Urrutia, DVM.

Dr. Urrutia joined the medical team at Parkland Veterinary Hospital in January of 2023. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Mt. San Antonio College in beautiful Southern California in 1993. He then moved back home to El Salvador at his father’s invitation to attend veterinary school at Universidad Salvadorena Alberto Masferrer (USAM) and graduated in March of 2000. Dr. Urrutia then returned to the U.S. with a degree and a beautiful wife to whom he has been married to for 26 years.

Dr. U also obtained a remote degree in both internal medicine and surgery for canines and felines through the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City, Mexico in 2006. He then completed both his U.S. National and Florida Boards to become a licensed veterinary practitioner in the state of Florida. Later, He decided to explore different modalities of treatment for his patients, so he acquired training from the University of Tennessee (UT) in 2016 and is now a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP). With this, he is currently leading the veterinary physical therapy department at Parkland Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Urrutia will continue to expand his education and training in alternative medicine, including but not limited to animal acupuncture and veterinary chiropractics. As part of this expanded training in eastern medicine, he is currently going through the process to become a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA) by way of the Chi University. His ultimate goal is to engage in a vast variety of treatment modalities, whether western or eastern, so that he can provide the best care for his patients while at the same time offering both non-surgical and non-pharmaceutical treatment options to clients.

In his personal time, Dr. Urrutia enjoys weight resistance training, Krav-Maga self-defense, motorcycles, sports cars and water sports at the beach.
